Personally, I saw Sparkler as a friend of Derpy and her with Dinky at the Sisterhoof Social as the former being like a big sis to latter and going with her for a good time.

just look at it this way, either derpy's husband looked similar to sparkler (how dinky is a unicorn), or that sparkler was adopted.......simple enough. (and i do like jam on toast, and buttery garlic bread; honey-butter if a dinner roll)
